FAQs about the Wediko School

1) What are you looking for in a Wediko School staff candidate?

Candidates interested in a position in the Wediko School must have the desire and ability to work hard and have fun. We are looking for mature, self-aware, flexible, empathetic, energetic, and resilient adults to join the Wediko team. We are looking for men and women who are eager to learn new things, are open to feedback and reflection, and are willing to challenge themselves and take risks. We value teamwork, humor, and optimism. Contrary to what one may think, previous experience with children or adolescents is not required.

Candidates must:

  • Be 21 years of age,
  • Have the ability to meet physical demands of a rugged 450 acre campus,
  • Make a 12 month commitment, and
  • BA/BS preferred.

2) What kind of supervision and training will I receive at the Wediko Summer Program?

Supervision and training are provided by clinical psychologists, social workers, special education professionals, therapeutic recreation specialists, and licensed nurses. This supervision is provided both formally, (individually and in groups), as well as informally throughout the day in the milieu.  Staff participate in Wediko Academy each week.

Clinical supervisors receive individual and group supervision with a senior clinician and participate in weekly Family Forum.

4) What are the dates for employment? 

Wediko asks staff to make a 12-month commitment. Applications are accepted year round.

6) What is Wediko's AmeriCorps ProfessionalCorps Program? If hired, am I eligible?

Wediko's AmeriCorps ProfessionalCorps Program is part of the national service program under the Corporation for National Service. Campus Compact for New Hampshire is Wediko’s AmeriCorps sponsoring agency. The ProfessionalCorps Program is specifically tailored for emerging professionals.  It is designed as a stepping stone to provide additional training and financial resources to enable members to further their career. 

You are eligible for a $4,700 AmeriCorps educational voucher if:

  • You are a US citizen, US National, or lawful permanent resident of the US.
  • You are at least 21 years of age and have a high school diploma.
  • You complete 1700 hours of service. 
  • You complete the required AmeriCorps paperwork. (This includes providing a copy of your birth certificate or passport.)

Wediko Children's Services is a proud partner of the AmeriCorps service network. AmeriCorps is a national network of programs that engages more than 70,000 Americans each year in intensive service to meet critical needs in communities throughout the nation. Certain positions qualify for service in Wediko's AmeriCorps program. Upon the successful completion of the service term, AmeriCorps members are entitled to a $4,700 Educational Award. AmeriCorps Educational Awards can be used to pay for college or graduate school as well as to repay qualified student loans.
