4th Annual Wediko Century Ride is a success!

Wediko's annual Century Ride took place this past weekend with 59 riders making the journey from Wediko's residential campus in Windsor, NH to our administrative and school-based office in Boston, MA. Together the group and our sponsors will have raised $60,000.

The weekend began with riders gathering in Boston to drop off their cars and load the bus for the ride to New Hampshire. We rolled over the bridge onto Wediko's campus just as the sun set across Black Pond. Riders were able to drop their bags off in their cabins and dorm rooms before we all came together again for a fantastic dinner and evening program before the large (and warm) fireplace. Riders and volunteers shared their reasons for participating. People spoke about the good work Wediko does in both the schools and in the residential programs, their own learning as staff, the kids and families served, and of the feeling of having done something that changed their lives and the lives of others. A current student and two parents of students were also part of this year's group of riders. The night was heartfelt and moving. Even those who had only recently learned of Wediko were touched and inspired to make the long trek the next morning on behalf of children and families served by Wediko.

Saturday was a cold but beautiful morning. We gathered in Ames Dining Hall once more for a hearty hot breakfast of made-to-order omelettes and french toast, a group photo, and a quick review of the route. Then the riders were off! Most riders chose the 100 mile course, but we also had a few riders complete 100k (62 mi) and 25 mile routes. Everyone finished their ride at Wediko's office in the South End where they were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd of family, friends, and volunteers. Smiles were abounding, to say the least.

Thanks for all of your support—from good wishes to donations to volunteering during the event. It is not too late to make a donation—checks can be written to Wediko and sent to our Boston office or made online.

We hope next year you will join us, as a rider or volunteer, on Friday and Saturday, September 14 & 15, 2012.

See you then!
