Taking Trauma To School: Teaching Traumatized Children

Students living in urban communities are exposed to traumatizing stressors that affect their ability to learn.  Educators increasingly must understand and respond to the effects of trauma on their students.  Speakers will address the impact of trauma on teaching and learning and discuss approaches to creating trauma-sensitive school environments.  These interdisciplinary presentations will address research, policy, educational strategies, and clinical practice:

What Does Working in a Trauma-Sensitive School Look Like?  Practice and Pragmatism: Joseph M. Brown, M.A., M.Ed., Program Director, McKinley Middle and Preparatory High Schools, Boston Public Schools .
