Job Descriptions: All staff work in a residential
psycho-educational treatment program, serving children and adolescents, ages
7-18, with serious emotional, behavioral, and learning issues. The program is
located in Southern New Hampshire.
Residential Counselor: Work as
part of a team of 6-8 adults. Each team is responsible for a group of 8-10
children or adolescents with serious emotional and behavioral disabilities. Nurses: Work as part of a team
of licensed nurses to operate the community health system, administering
medications, providing first aid, and monitoring public health concerns.
Program
Coordinators: Oversee
programming on a daily basis for all 4 developmental groups. Supervision and training are provided throughout the
program by clinical psychologists, social workers, special education
professionals, therapeutic recreation specialists and licensed nurses, All staff
participate in lectures and case conferences during two weeks of orientation -
before the children arrive, and after the children leave. AmeriCorps: Wediko Children's Services is a
proud partner of the AmeriCorps service network. AmeriCorps is a national
network of programs that engages more than 70,000 Americans each year in
intensive service to meet critical needs in communities throughout the nation.
Certain positions qualify for service in Wediko's AmeriCorps program. Upon the
successful completion of the service term, AmeriCorps members are entitled to a $1,250
Educational Award. AmeriCorps Educational Awards can be used to pay for college
or graduate school as well as to repay qualified student loans. CONTACT September to June

Special
Education Instructors & Assistants:
Plan and implement active, learner-centered language arts, math and science
curricula. Assistants are affiliated with a therapeutic group.
Therapeutic
Activity Instructors & Assistants:
Specialized staff with training in aquatics, athletics, and visual &
performing arts create and implement active, learner-centered curricula.
Assistants are affiliated with a therapeutic group.
Culinary Staff:
Produce 900 meals a day for children and staff. Also may provide prevocational
instruction for students who assist in the kitchen.
Program Supervisor:
12 month position: 10 months in Boston, 2 months in NH. Manage programming for
Summer Program. Comprehensive duties include staff recruitment, training and
supervision, program design, development and implementation, and program
evaluation.
Clinical Supervisors:
Supervise 1-2 therapeutic teams. Provide treatment planning, crisis
intervention, produce child clinical reports and supervise direct care staff.
Qualifications: Desire and
ability to work diligently 24 hours a day on a team to help troubled children,
at times under stressful conditions. Previous experience with children or
adolescents is helpful. With few exceptions, students must have completed at
least two years of college to meet and master the job demands of a direct care
position. Other jobs require relevant credentials. The ability to meet the
physical demands of a rugged 450-acre campus is also required.
Job Dates: Early
July to late August. Eight-week seasonal, summer position, except Program Supervisor.
At the end of the summer, full-time school year positions may be available in NH
or Boston Wediko Programs.

Benefits: Extensive
Training, Room, Board, and Stipend. Stipends
are based on experience and relevant academic credentials. All staff receive
five days off, one per week during the 45-day session. Certain positions may qualify
to be AmeriCorps members and be eligible for an AmeriCorps Educational Award.
