What You Will Do at Wediko

Wediko School

Students are admitted to the Wediko School on a rolling admissions basis. Students are assigned to one of four dormitories based on developmental age. Students attend Wediko school from 8:00 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.  The curriculum is similar to that of a student’s home, school including: math, language arts, social studies, science and history as well as art and physical education. There are 6 to 10 students in each class and classes are group based or individualized depending on our students' needs. The Wediko school is licensed by the New Hampshire Department of Education.

In the Wediko School, meals are prepared by our chef in the kitchen.  Meals are served family style in the dining hall for breakfast and lunch and in the dorms for dinner.  Students and staff eat together.

After school, it is afternoon activity! Afternoon activities vary by the season but includes such things as: fishing, swimming, biking, pre-vocational opportunities, sledding, model making, etc. Daily group therapy occurs every day, followed by dinner, chores, homework, evening activity, arcade, bed prep, and lights out.

An important part of the therapeutic process in the Wediko School is that children stay connected to their families.  For some students this means going home on weekends and for school vacations whenever possible. For students who live further away Wediko encourages monthly visits families.  In addition to staying connected family visits allow students to practice the skills they learn at Wediko in their home environment. The time a child spends at home is often a focus of family therapy.

Family Therapy

For children who live close enough to go home on weekends, family therapy happens on the NH setting usually when parents bring the child back on Sunday. For families of children from farther away, family therapy happens over the phone and in less frequent but longer family therapy sessions. Each student’s progress is tracked through periodic treatment team meetings and the treatment team decides when it is appropriate for the child to begin transitioning home.
