FAQs about School-Based Services
1) Will other kids tease me if I have a therapist in school?
Wediko therapists will work with you and the staff at school to be sure that you are not teased for meeting with a therapist. In schools where Wediko therapists work, most of the other students are also meeting with a therapist.
2) Will the therapist keep my secrets?
Therapists believe that your family and your staff at school all want the best for you. What you say in therapy meetings usually will not be shared with others, unless you are talking about being hurt or about not being taken care of. Therapists will be clear with you about what they must share with others, and you will be a part of the plan to share important information.
3) Will the therapist mess with my mind?
Wediko therapists know that you are the one who decides what will be talked about. They listen carefully and ask questions to be sure they understand what you are saying.
4) Why does therapy happen in school?
Your school has decided that therapy might help you to do your best in school. They have asked Wediko therapists to come to school to meet with you and other students. The therapists can talk with your teachers and school counselors to learn about what is going well for you and where you are not being successful. The therapists can do a better job helping you if they know what is happening during your time in school.
5) Does the therapist have to talk to my parents?
Yes. The therapists understand that your parents and family know you better than the therapist can ever know you. You and your family can provide a lot of important information to the therapist so that they can understand how you can do your best.
6) What if I don’t want to go to therapy?
You and your family are important decision-makers about what services you get in school. If you decide you don’t want to go to therapy, you, your family, and other important people at school or in your life will want to understand why you don’t want to participate in school-based therapy. A plan will be made that everyone can agree upon. That plan will be reviewed every couple of months and can always be changed.
