About Experiential ACTIVE Learning

Learning about how one relates to oneself, to others and to the surrounding world is what the Wediko Summer Program is all about.

Wediko staff embrace an experiential learning approach which draw on children's experiences and then find ways to help them connect these experiences to ongoing learning. Understanding the importance of building on what people already know, Wediko staff guide the children with skillful questioning which generate vivid ideas, spur the imagination and provides creative learning experiences.

At Wediko, experiential -ACTIVE- learning refers to how children participate in the process of thinking. Wediko builds on children's abilities. Staff know that it is far more important to recognize a child for what he knows instead of what he doesn't know, or to help a child see what she has done instead of what she hasn't done. Children are encouraged to ask questions, take initiative, make decisions and be responsible for the results. Individual learning styles are respected and tapped using a mutli-sensory curriculum to help children connect body, mind and spirit. Children's points of view and interests are taken seriously, since personal relevancy is imperative to the learning process.

Wediko Summer Program is more than a 6 week experience. The skills acquired during the 45 day journey have the capacity to encourage the heart, build self confidence and empower will. This is the framework which potentially can turn a child's life.
